Why The Mouse House?

IMG_6015.JPG

The Mouse House started with a pile of battered scaffold boards and a stubborn refusal to let good timber go to waste. Today, the workshop is home to a small crew of imaginary mice and real humans turning reclaimed wood into furniture and home accessories that actually get used, loved and passed on.

  • We only use genuine reclaimed scaffold boards, never fake “weathered effect” timber

  • Every piece is designed, cut and finished by hand in Cowbridge, South Wales, so no two items are ever exactly the same

  • Choosing reclaimed wood furniture keeps characterful timber in use and reduces the demand for newly felled trees

THE MOUSE HOUSE COWBRIDGE STORY

Adrian Llewellyn-Jones never saw retirement as sitting still. At nearly 75, he spotted piles of weathered scaffold boards heading for the dump during the 2020 lockdown. Instead of letting them go, Adrian fired up his workshop in historic Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, and started transforming them into rustic shelves and tables that brought him joy and purpose.

What began as a hobby quickly snowballed. The first pieces sold to homes around Wales, then cafes and restaurants started calling for sturdy table tops, benches and display shelves all around Britain.

Adrian expanded into chopping boards, wine racks, clocks and even custom storage, serving over 3,000 homes and 100 businesses while keeping every board's unique knots and stories intact.

Today, The Mouse House stands for sustainable, handmade reclaimed wood furniture that fits real life. From family dinners to busy cafe rushes, all born from one man's (and the mice's) refusal to waste good timber.
